My bike: more NOS parts for my build

Recently I have been trying to work on a couple of restoration parts and unusually I have thrown the towel in on both parts but for different reasons.

First up is the radiator, it was pretty clogged up with dirt and I could see a few damaged fins, after a good clean, de-grease and all round scrub I could see what I have to work with plan to sit down and un-pick the bent fins. It soon became apparent that not only was this a pretty hard it was going to be extremely difficult to get it to look uniform as the damage ran in to the core. I was also concerned that I may damage the coolant tubes creating a leak, so I decided it would be best to replace it and keep the old Rad for a rainy day. The new old stock rad was found on German ebay but there are a few around so availability is not to much of a problem although the rising prices are...

The next problem was the rear carrier, now the carrier is good its just the powder coat was gloss rather than the satin black I requested. I returned the carrier to the powdercoaters for re-painting and unfortunately it came back with a massive paint build up in the carrier area. I spent some time sanding the runs down and finishing with a fine wet and dry then I tried to blend it in with primer and satin black spray, again this is ok but quite disappointing. The problem with powdercoating is that it is hard to get off. It is done with an abrasive blast (usually sand or glass) and this can damage metal and deform it and I was unsure if the rack would be happy to get blasted for the 3rd time.
Checking on www.cmsnl.com I noticed they had a NOS carrier and as I needed a few weird fixings I decided to bite the bullet and get it, problem solved. I also ordered a new tool tray and strap, as well... why not!

My Bike: Restoration update

This week's restoration update mostly involves painting....

Items spray painted are the top crown/ yoke, the tops of the handle bar clamps, part of the rear shock linkage, and a couple of brackets.

The swing arm went for powder coating.

Good 2nd hand mudguard and tail unit arrived from Germany. Arranged for these items and the side panels to go for professional spray painting. Interestingly the white colour code NH0 is also called Championship White and is the same colour Honda used on the Integra Type R.

Some spares and rubber parts from Honda M Shop. Front foot peg rubbers, rear foot rests, Pro-link decals, rear drum brake actuating rod, 3 x rubber coolant hoses, 6 x hose clips.

Lastly I sent lots of nuts, bolts and all of the axles for cleaning and re-electroplating.

I forgot I had this.... NOS rear shock

My Bike: parts, NOS speedo cover

I needed a speedo cover for my build but according to the Honda M shop these were now discontinued. So I was very surprised to see a new old stock item pop up on ebay. I used www.cmsnl.com to check the value of what they should be (£40ish), so I bid honestly to its actual value and won! To say I was pleased was an understatement as it was evident that were other bidders, sorry!

My Bike: Parts, NOS parts

Whilst restoration news is a little light, while some parts are being currently worked on, I thought I'd post some more new old stock parts I have recently collected.

I wanted genuine Honda petrol cap as I heard that the replica caps found on ebay were not very good and I didn't want to take the risk on my NOS fuel tank. The left hand handle bar clamp bracket was allegedly the last one... The throttle housing completes all the parts on the handle bars. The left hand side panel was relatively cheap and as mine had a broken lug I had to have it, it will also be used to colour match a little paintwork. And lastly the liquid cooled decals are now very rare, and will complete the radiator cowl. For these parts I used our friends at the Honda M shop

When I stripped the bike down I noticed the exhaust was rotten, fortunately a new genuine exhaust came up on ebay. It has a couple of paint scrapes on it, but after 25 odd years of storage its nothing a quick spray wont hide.
genuine Honda is the only way on fuel caps
clutch bracket plus throttle covers
right hand side panel
decals
exhaust just needs blowing over after 25 + years of storage
